Notes that remember exactly where they came from
In PaperLab every note is anchored to the passage it is about: it keeps the page and the position on that page, and clicking the note opens the paper right there. Each note also says who wrote it, You, AI or AI · edited, and the notes list filters by author. So months later you can cite a note with confidence and still tell your own thinking from a model’s.

What you can do
- Every note keeps the page and position of its passage.
- Click a note to jump back to the passage in the paper.
- Each note shows who wrote it: You, AI, or AI · edited.
- Filter the notes list to your notes, AI notes, or both.
- Editing an AI note marks it “AI · edited”, never “You”.
- Workspaces show every note from their papers in one place.
Tips
- Write the note in your own words, and say whether it is the paper’s claim or your opinion.
- Before writing a section, read the notes for that workspace instead of rereading papers.
- Keep AI notes as drafts to check, not conclusions.
Questions people ask
What happens to a note if I edit an AI note?
It becomes “AI · edited”. PaperLab never relabels model text as yours, so your provenance stays honest.
Can I see all notes across papers?
Yes, per workspace: a workspace lists every note from its papers, and each still links back to its passage.
Are notes stored with the AI model that wrote them?
Yes. AI text keeps the model and the prompt version that produced it, stored apart from your own writing.
